Priscilla Ahn : A Good Day

Priscilla Ahn = Norah Jones - Jazz

Yep, thats my first take on this emerging singer-songwriter from the US. Again, a big thanks to Jay Leno for inviting her to perform at his show and showing us Indian viewers what we will probably never see on our only Western music channel - the hip-hop centred Vh1 . Folk music, for what reason i wonder, never seems to hit it off as hugely as say Rock,Pop,Hip-Hop or even Techno. Though her writing was amazing , I found Norah Jones' music boring and too jazzy. As they say , you have to learn to love Jazz , i thought i'd just continuing hating it. Priscilla Ahn brings to the table exactly what i ordered , precise to the minute detail. Folk,Soul,Acoustica,The Voice, good writing and most importantly, No Jazz. On the song she sang on Leno , Dreams , her voice carries a lightness or great strength as necessary, and the arrangements were very pleasing. I downloaded the album in no time and fell in love with pretty much every track on it.

My favs from A Good Day :

                  1)Dream - Fairytale-y lyrics with a hint of darkness.
"I was a little girl alone in my little world who dreamed of a little home for me.
I played pretend between the trees, and fed my houseguests bark and leaves, and laughed in my pretty bed of green."

                  2)
I Don't Think So - A great beat, a great beginning. Here Priscilla has some very  interesting intonations that display a range of styles in her voice. The guitar has a hint of country twang which is a nice variety if you are eclectic in your musical tastes.

                   3)Red Cape -
Very KT Tunstall-ish beat . Love the bridge.

                   4)Opportunity To Cry -
My favourite song from the album.Probably my song of the year so far. Love everything bout it.

                   5)Astranaut -
Creepy , Goth-y song. Gorgeous nonetheless.
