Yonge & St.Clair - A Year in Review

I'll be honest, I wasn't one for moving away from downtown Toronto under any circumstances, especially having lived at the super-duper convenient Yonge and College area for well over 6 months. But with the wife arriving, I could no longer bunk with 5 other guys, nor could I really afford a decent spot anywhere close to downtown, so it was time to look beyond...

I knew the Yonge & St. Clair fairly well, having explored a vast majority of its beautiful trails and parks through my running group, Anne's Team. We usually started our weekly runs at the New Balance(corner of Yonge and Delisle), ran a bit of tarmac, before heading off into one of the numerous trails. It's a beautiful part of town. All the usual suspects were there - a Goodlife Fitness to finally get that 6-pack, Rexall, good ol' trusty Timmy's, a Loblaws for grub, and all the other neighborhood essentials.

Come November 1st, Wife and I successfully move in to 64 St. Clair Ave West, an old heritage building a few hundred feet from the busy intersection. This was going to be home for the next year atleast.

We moved out October 31st 2014, to fresher pastures.(Just couple blocks north actually).

My personal favorite spot has to be Union Social Eatery, more a gastropub than a regular neighborhood one, its got a great selection of drinks and fantastic food. Not to mention the 1000 TV screens for you to not miss that buzzer-beater from Kobe!

And how can I forget our trusty "Mel-Kadai"(Tamil) - which translates to "shop at the top", a Chinese joint called "Big Mouth Luck Chinese Dumpling House"( I know). Nothing fancy, but they had a killer fried-rice with beef sides - enough to do the job during a lazy cooking day.

There's some fancy Italian restaurants around the area, where we swore we would go, but failed to. Considering how much the Wife loves pasta, and me meatballs, I can't quite fathom how we didn't.

Staying in St.Clair was a dream for a running enthusiast like I am. Mt. Pleasant Cemetery presents itself just minutes from our door, and the Key Gardiner trail ever so nicely connects into Cedarvale park, and back onto St.Clair. A bit of tarmac, dirt and gravel - what more can one ask for!

And then there were these two bald men that we were spying on. Yeah i know, Well not exactly spying, they lived right across from us, in a fancy condo. One of them reminded me of Hitman's Agent 47. We kinda miss them now.

When the time came to move to Davisville, I was again a little disappointed that it wasn't as "happening" as I'd have liked. But you know what? It's what you make of it - and so far its been amazing here at 17 Lascelles Boulevard. We still shop in St.Clair, and its a long-ass walk to the Davisville subway, there aren't as many cafes and pubs in the vicinity, but there's a beautiful little children's playground in the neighborhood park that just makes this place perfect. That's the thing that matters most now :)

A Little Love Poem

Your Eyes They Sparkle Like A Star
Doesn't Matter If You're Near Or Far
So Now You Know Why I Lose Sight
Try Looking Into A Car's Headlight!

And Then There's That Pretty Little Smile
Makes Your Eyes Go And Hide
Oh But Did I Tell You?
Makes My Knees Go Weak Too!

You Say The Sweetest Things To Me
Sweeter Even Than The Sweetest Honey
Even When Things Turn A Bit Sour
You Make Up With Me Within The Hour

They Say A Dog's Love is Reserved
Only For Those Whose Hearts Are Deserved
The Way My Little Tuff Loves You
Guarantees To Me Your Heart Too

I Felt A Passion Ignite Within Me
There Were Butterfiles and Perhaps Even A Bee
And Since That Day We Met
Our Story Became This Amazing Duet

So Much There Is To See and Do
But I Ain't Nothing Without You
Coz To The World Baby You're Just Another Girl
But To Me Baby You Are The World
