Sara Bareilles - Little Voice

It has been a LONG time since a new musician has grabbed me the way Sara Bareilles has. I remember seeing her perform Love Song on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and immediately getting hooked to her jazzy-pop style. This album is her first with a major record-label company having previously released two EPs and following it up with her debut album,Careful Confessions. The new album Little Voice(I wonder why she's named it so coz believe me , there's nothing little about her voice) has 12 tracks mostly driven by lush arrangements with her at the piano. There's an uncanny resemblance to Sarah Mclachlan on this album.Except for the fact that Mclachlan's got a much more soulful and dreamy voice , its very similar both lyrically and musically.Sara has more energy and attitude to her singing than her contemporaries. She has been compared to Norah Jones regularly and may get grouped in with the soft ballad types like Colbie Caillat and Anna Nalick. But, based on this album, I believe she's so much more. It's the pace of the album more than anything else which distinctly separates Sara from the others.

My favorite tracks from the album :
  1. Love Song - Its the ultimate summer song of 2008.Very catchy and well produced. The video is very nice too.Check it out here.
  2. One Sweet Love - A lovely ballad . Stuck in my head at the moment.
  3. Come Round Soon - This one's got a Jazz-y twist to it! Will have your feet tapping at once. There's a part in the song where she screams "Anywayyyyyyyyyyyy".Unforgettable.
  4. Morningside - My personal favorite from the album.Loved the chorus.
  5. Many The Miles - Reminded me a lot of John Mayer's style.Again,a very catchy chorus which will have you hooked!
There are three or four other songs on the album worth a mention but i should probably stop here.My Rating: 9/10

:Try These:
  • Sarah Mclachlan
